Week 3 Prompts

A. Read your short essay out loud to a person not in our class. Give that person a copy of your essay so that he or she can follow along and mark what seems awkward or needs improvement. Make the necessary changes and note them in your journal. Write 300 words on how this activity helped you, what you learned, and how it could help others.

B. Choose two or three grammatical errors that you struggle with from the PH or punctuation packet. Edit your short essay looking specifically for those errors. Write the original sentence; then rewrite the corrected sentence. You must have at least six corrected sentences. On the blog, include both the original and the corrected sentence. Then, reflect on what you learned, how this revising strategy helped you, and how it might help others.

C. Attend the English Department Reading Series at noon Friday (or watch a recorded reading on the English Reading Series website). Write a summary of the reading and reflect on how listening to others’ work could help you improve your own writing.
