Of all the soft sweaters, and of the warm jackets you may lust after, but not purchase. Of all the hot pumps, as high as possible and bright red you may lust after, but not purchase. Of all the sparkling gowns, and of all the slick vests you may lust after, but not purchase. Of all the jeans, of all the gleaming rings, and of all the cool hats, you may lust after but not purchase. Of all the tennis shoes, waiting to make you lightning fast, you may lust after but not purchase. Of all the gorgeous blouses, and of all the charming cardigans, you may lust after but not purchase. Of all the long necklaces, made of fine pearls and of small trinkets you may lust after, but not purchase.
Of all the newest phones, and of the newest networks you may lust after, but not purchase. Of all the best video games, using the best images and the best technology you may lust after, but not purchase. Of all the largest TV's, of all the most comfortable couches, and of all the grandest houses you may lust after, but not purchase. Of all the hottest sports cars, yellow and exceptionally fast you may lust after, but not purchase. Of all the things in the world you may lust after, but not purchase. Unless on sale.

Cute piece. It only rings too true! The senctence structures are really good, they're not too overdone. I think you did this post just right.
ReplyDeleteI want more. Yes, this was formatted to fit the same structure and had the same devices as the "Lamentations" piece, but for what purpose? Why did it profit your passage to write in this style? It is cute and has a funny twist ending, but what of this speaks with your own personal voice? Where is your character? Just because you are writing in a different stylization, does not reign you in or conform you as a writer. Use your own techniques within the structure. Create a piece that you are proud of, because you so wittily made it your own. This does complete the assignment in obedient fashion, but it hides who you are. Free your creativity within the assignment. It will make it easier and more fun, I promise.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about the whys behind this piece. Why is it okay to lust if you do not purchase? (Lust is such a tantalizing word...riff on it more?) By "on sale" I assume you mean discounted price--how much does it have to be discounted? Or--can you only purchase these things if they are available to be purchased (from a store, Craig's list, Amazon.com, etc.).
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed the details (particularly the "fine pearls and small trinkets"). The list is quite engaging.
Sounds like you enjoyed this. I hope so.
