Week 9 (couldn't hurt)

Mountain biking is a fantastic sport. I believe that this incredible bodaciousness stems from the sports origins. It wasn’t created for profit or personal gain, merely from a personal desire to get from point A to point B. I think this tradition continues today. I think the sport doesn’t have its roots based as much in commercialism as other sports. I think it is more laid back. You’ll never meet and uptight mountain biker. The culture of mountain biking doesn’t really have the atmosphere for people to become uptight. I think the people that mountain bikers are most akin to are surfers and football players. We have the laid back attitude of the surfer but the enthusiasm and hardiness of football players. Wouldn’t you need to be tough to crash at twenty mile an hour down a dirt trail?

Mountain biking is a fantastic sport. I believe that this incredible bodaciousness stems from the sport's humble beginnings. It wasn’t created for profit or personal gain, merely from a personal desire to enjoy the bicycle on another level. This pure love of bicycling continues in the mountain biking of today. Mountain biking isn't as a huge commercial hub as other sports such as baseball, football, or soccer; so I think this keeps the passionate bikers closer to the sport. Mellowness flows throughout the sport of mountain biking. Uptight, short-fused mountain bikers are a rarity, at least in my experience. I find the mountain biker community to have an atmosphere akin to that of surfers. While I have never spent a prolonged period of time in the company of surfers words and phrases like, "gnarly", "sesh", "no worries", and "rail" are commonly used by mountain bikers and consequently lead me to believe that they are comparable to surfers. A laid back attitude coupled with a healthy dose of reckless abandonment make for a very interesting sport.
